One morning I was visiting my Grandmother in the Summer and it was particularally tepid that morning… Sweat covering my forehead, I nervously approached her front door. As soon as I heard that her house had air conditioning system, I knew I had to visit! Upon entering her home, I saw Grandmother relaxing in her number one rocking chair while using a handheld fan. “Grandmother, why haven’t you turned on the air conditioning system? It is extremely tepid in here and outside!” I yelled. She said that she doesn’t need any upscale air conditioning system. She smiled a bit and said, “Nature provides my air conditioning system.” She then jumped up from her seat and opened every window in the room before I could ask her what she meant… You can hear parakeets and some of the local kids down the street as the moderate breeze blew in. The heat wasn’t something I wanted and right after that, she pulled the chain on the ceiling fan. It helped a little from the ceiling fan circulating air, much better than the heat from outside. She then said there was no need for one of those upscale air conditioning system machines, although I knew she had one, and grandmother was just resting in the middle of the room, arm outstretched, enjoying the breeze from the fan and the air coming through the windows. I sat down on the couch and enjoyed it a bit. I guess the simple pleasures can be the most satisfying at times. I still wonder though, if there was no breeze, would this even help?
