DIY heated floors in bathroom

As Fall settled in, I was happy to have a warm floor to stand on while I got ready to head to work.

Since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of having underfloor heating in my bathroom. I work as a teacher so I have the summers off. Sometimes I go on vacation but, more often than not, I just try to learn a new skill over my summer vacation. This past vacation I attempted to put heating under my bathroom flooring. I researched it a lot, read up on everything, and got the supplies would need. I then began ripping up the tile in the bathroom. This was a lot of work and very messy. Once that was done, I laid down the heat matting. Of course I was careful not to break the wire that runs through the matting. After that, it was a simple as gouging out a space for the thermostat and wiring up the thermostat. The hardest part was laying the new tile back down. It took me a long time to master the tile cutter. I had to go back to the home improvement store and buy a few extra tiles because I ruined some of them. It took me all summer but by the time school started up again, I had heated floor in my bathroom, just as I always wanted. Plus, I learned a few new skills. As Fall settled in, I was happy to have a warm floor to stand on while I got ready to head to work. But now I am wishing that the rest of my house had heated floors too. Perhaps I will work on one room per summer until my whole house has heated floor. It should only take about six years.
