It was weird to hear some of the things that would happen while he was learning, and he came house covered in dust and I thought I saw a spider on him but it wasn’t. He is getting actually dirty doing this job however he said he is learning and the other boys don’t get like this. I laughed a bit, of course, my dad is the guy who gets dirty; The uniforms he has to wear are the funniest part of the job. I joke with him a little and such however he is taking on a modern challenge. It does take skill and proficiency to be an Heating, Ventilation and A/C tech and most crucially, he loves doing it, and right now as a middle schooler, some of the stories he tells plus the orange shirt is pure comedy to me.

I did my best to follow his advice. He continued to express the importance of using adequate ventilation and other safety precautions when operating heating device in small spaces. I asked if there was an easier option because I was a bit overwhelmed with all the information he was providing. He said unless I was going to cuddle up with a friend or two for warmth, he absolutely didn’t have the type of portable space heater that I required. I did leave with a deeper understanding of the portable space heater from what I remembered at least. That night was still cold and I did have a few friends with me although I just felt a bit awkward cuddling up with one of them. I made it through the night however if I plan on going on another cold night in the future, I have to have better plans.

I have a carport that has just sat unused for over a year. The previous homeowners put it a huge distance from the house. Why would I want to walk super far with groceries and my kids? My family is growing and we are running out of room. My office is going to be a bedroom soon. I want to convert a carport into an office space with heating, cooling, water and electricity. I have looked at the metal sides and I think I am going to need fiberglass insulation. I am a new father. My wife works and takes care of the baby. There is no time for me to do the fiberglass insulation installation on my own. I don’t even know if I want to do that or spray foam insulation. Insulation installation isn’t hard, it is just time consuming and tedious. I have looked around online and I did find a home insulation service company. That can do spray foam, vapor barriers, crawl space insulation and plain old insulation replacement and installation. Their fees seem reasonable for what I am getting. Honestly I think I would pay a pretty high fee to not deal with that stuff. I don’t have the time and my skin tends to react badly to the insulation. After I get them in there I can add drywall and call in the other technicians to make the space usable.

I hope we can room together for one more year so that I can build a buffer of money in the bank so that when she leaves I won’t have to stress about finding another renter right away.

Everyone is cleaning today as it is Sunday and the day we do the cleaning for the week. It really doesn’t take that long to clean though because we live in a small flat and have a robot vacuum cleaner that does most of the cleaning for the week in the flat. My laundry is really easy in the summer because I wear some board shorts, which I usually wash in the bathtub when I take a shower, so my laundry is very simple during the summers. My roommate is really clean and I really don’t see her as the local business where she works as a heating rep keeps her busy most of the time. I work from home and we usually have dinner together a few nights a week when she isn’t working at the store. I hope we can room together for one more year so that I can build a buffer of money in the bank so that when she leaves I won’t have to stress about finding another renter right away. We both like the heating and cooling system and we usually like the thermostat set at the same temperature, which is great because that can be a battle in itself if you have a hot and cold person living together. I like to keep it really cool at night so I can sleep well, but my last flatmate liked it warm at night, so needless to say it wasn’t so easy living together. But now, the air conditioning can run all night and we are both fine.

I just got some Biofreeze cold gel in my eye, real nice.

I put some on my lower back but didn’t wash my hands, and now a few minutes later I rubbed my eye and now the gel is cooling my eyeball down very nicely.

It burns and feels cold at the same time, reminding me to wash my hands next time I use the gel on my back. My lower back is feeling a bit better now after putting the cold gel on it and it should be good to go in a few hours. My zone control HVAC system is working well to cool down my office, while the rest of the house is warmer and not cooled down because there is no need for a/c in the other empty rooms of the flat. I will work for another hour or so and then knock out some yoga and then head to the beach. I am not using much air conditioning just yet though because it is the middle of April and the weather is still pretty moderate. We really won’t see the real heat for two more months, as it takes a couple months to transition from winter to summer. In July and August we pretty much run the air conditioning system all day and night, but our power bills are still usually under $100 per month. We split the bills so I only pay about $50 a month to have a nice cool flat all day and night during the really hot summers. It costs a bit more in the winters though.
