Very efficient air conditioning

Life has been pretty exciting for me this past year.

I got married, moved to a new city, and we found a great house to buy. I also took a job at an office downtown where I have the ability to make my own hours. Well, almost, I work in marketing so there are times I must meet with clients well after normal working hours and that can be difficult on many levels. My wife works at a local hospital as a charge nurse and that is why we relocated in the first place so we seldom get to spend any quality time together. Anyway, I can’t say much when it comes to that as we are both very busy with our careers for now. There is one thing that I dislike about my job, the building I work in is always freezing. I am a pretty big guy so the cold doesn’t normally bother me but out manager likes to keep the thermostat set to sixty five degrees. You can certainly tell that we don’t pay for our own electric bill because if we did I am sure it would be different. The energy bill is included in the rent so our company doesn’t have to pay extra for it. I have to keep and extra jacket at the office and I even have a space heater that I plug in when no one is paying attention. I feel bad for client when they come in dressed in summer weight clothing and visibly chilly while trying to conduct business. I will usually offer to meet for drinks or dinner out in town because we can go somewhere more comfortable.

I had the opportunity to travel overseas for a few months.

I figured I would take advantage of it while I was still single and didn’t have any real obligations here at home.

The only issue I had was finding someone to check in on my house while it was empty all that time. I put an ad online for a person to take care of things but most of the people who answered seemed a bit sketchy. In the end I just hired a neighbor kid to mow the lawn and hoped for the best. I shut down the HVAC system because no one would be there and it was summer so there was no threat to the pipes. I headed off on my adventure feeling pretty good about it. I had the time of my life but must admit it was good to be home. I arrived and immediately turned the AC on because the house was really warm. Within just a few moments my house filled with an odor that was awful. It smelled like something had died in my air ducts. I shut the system off as fast as I could and immediately called my HVAC dealer to come check it out what was going on. They sent out a technician and apparently a family of mice had set up their home while the system while it was not running. They had ruined part of the insulation too. The repairs didn’t take that long and they sent in a separate crew to clean the ductwork. They told me that I should have left it on while I was gone to avoid the problem but I didn’t know that. Lesson learned!

In my old apartment we had a great HVAC system that kept us cool and comfortable.

Life has been a bit difficult of late. My boyfriend decided that he wanted to end things and told me to move out of the apartment that we shared. We moved away from our home town years ago so I had no choice but to ask a friend if I could stay with her until I found a place. I put most of my things in storage and set up in her guest room to sort my life out. I knew I needed to find a place but she told me that I could stay as long and I needed and I appreciated that. At first I was just happy to have a great place to stay where I wouldn’t be questioned about my failed relationship. After about a week or so I came to the realization that I needed to find a place sooner rather than later. Her place was spacious enough and she respected my privacy, but her apartment has no air conditioning. I am not sure how she survives in the summer heat without it but I am so uncomfortable that I can’t even sleep at night. She gave me a fan to put next to the bed but that is just not enough. In my old apartment we had a great HVAC system that kept us cool and comfortable. Of course, going back there is not an option and I still haven’t found a place I can afford on my own with that amenity. I have reached the point where I am willing to purchase my own window unit at use that in an apartment without central air. I don’t want to hurt my friends feelings by telling her that her place is awful after all.

When our son graduated from High School we were very concerned.

I know that is not a normal reaction to this achievement but we held our breath just hoping that he wouldn’t quit school before he reached that point. The reason for our concern was the fact that he announced that he was going to enter a trade school right away. He wasn’t even going to take the summer off. Seeing as he always hated school we felt that he was just going to throw away the money on tuition and do as he always had, skip classes, fail to complete assignments, and fail to make the grade. I know, we should have had more faith in his abilities but we were going off his track record. Nevertheless we agreed to help him with his tuition costs so long as we saw he was applying himself. So far he has held up his end of it and actually seems to be happy to go to school. His grades are good and he is on track to complete his certification as an HVAC repair technician in the next few months. When we ask him how things are going he is excited about the future which we thought would never happen. Apparently the idea of steering himself towards a career that he will like has made all the difference. Still, this school can not end soon enough for us. We are still holding our breath and hoping that the current excitement does not end. He will have a wonderful career once he has is certification and he even has an internship lined up that starts next week. We want the best for him and hope he has found his calling in life.

As my dad sits in his recliner, feet up, heating pad behind him, and being miserable, I wonder why he does this to himself each Fall.

Homeownership comes with many responsibilities and I wonder if he is getting too old to do so much on his own.

My brother and I both live almost an hour away so it isn’t like we can stop over all the time to help out and dad insists that he can still do everything just fine. He kills himself out in the yard for days and then ends up laid up, on pain killers, for days at a time. His back is just not what it used to be. One thing we have been trying to convince him to change is the wood stove. He spends weeks stacking wood to get ready for the winter. Then, all winter long, he has to reload the wood stack in the house. This involves shovelling to the pile, loading the rack, and then dragging it inside. We contacted an HVAC dealer who also deals with gas fireplaces. We gave dad the information and he said he would think about it. His big issue is that he doesn’t want to “waste” money paying the utility company. We showed him that modern gas fireplaces are very efficient and that they can heat with just an adjustment to a thermostat. This would save him hours of backbreaking work, not to mention the mess involved in using a wood stove. We would worry less about the fact that he was injuring himself too. I really hope he makes this change so that he can have a pain free heating source.

My HVAC system would have my friends and I toasty and when the kids finally came home, soaking wet and cold, they would be able to warm up quickly too

My kids have been talking about Halloween for the last month. They are finally at an age where they can go trick or treating with their friends and they have made their own costumes too. Hanging with their friends, instead of walking around with mom and dad, is the “cool” thing to do now. I did offer to tag along behind them to make sure that they will be safe but the protested about that too. It is a little bittersweet because I will miss seeing them go door to door in their little costumes and being scared of some of the displays. Some of the other moms are coming over to hand out candy with me and drink wine, I guess that will help to ease my aching heart. Having your kids become more independent has some advantages especially when it comes to my comfort. As the night approached, the weather forecast was grim. They were calling for wet snow and wind. We have had Halloweens like that before and it was always miserable walking around. I guess that was the biggest perk of staying home. I could sit in my heated and dry home while the kids ran around in the cold. My HVAC system would have my friends and I toasty and when the kids finally came home, soaking wet and cold, they would be able to warm up quickly too. I will make sure that there is hot chocolate ready to warm them on the inside too. Halloween has changed in our house but I think I will be fine with the transition after all.

Since my husband is angry with me over questioning his ability, I think I will call and have a service technician come check things out while he is at work

It has been really tense around my house this past few weeks. Normally, I don’t try and tell my husband what to do when it comes to home maintenance, but I just couldn’t stay silent anymore. I have always been in charge of shopping, cooking, and paying the bills. For this reason, when I kept getting invoices from our HVAC dealer I started to question what was going on. They all seemed to be for parts for the furnace but none of them were for a service call. I didn’t understand why he would need to purchase parts for the furnace, when as far as I knew, nothing was wrong with it to begin with. When I asked my husband about the situation, he told me that he knew what he was doing. He said that he wanted to upgrade some of the filters, wires, and other parts so that we wouldn’t lose heat during the winter. Now, my husband is an accountant by trade and really has no idea how to wire anything. Now, I think I will be worried each time I turn on the heat that it may cause a fire or something. Since my husband is angry with me over questioning his ability, I think I will call and have a service technician come check things out while he is at work. At least then I will have peace of mind and my husband will still think that he was the reason we had heat all winter. I would much rather pay a professional to do things than waste money “trying” to make something work better.

Ok, I know it is only Fall, but, I can’t help thinking about Christmas. I am one of those people who loves everything about the holiday. The shopping, decorating, baking, and most of all, the cold weather. Many of my friends and family don’t understand that last one. I think I love this part the best of all because I can wear all of my favorite comfy clothes and snuggle up with a good book by the fireplace. All things about cold weather seem to recharge my soul. Warm weather is great too but is just seems exhausting to me. Hanging with friends, running from one event to the other, and doing everything to try and stay cool just takes a toll on me. It is so much easier to turn on the heat and bundle up. It is like my HVAC system is giving me a big relaxing hug. I am always very careful to make sure that my furnace is working in top running condition before the winter sets in. I have a standing appointment for the first week in October each year. I tend to be a little annoying to my HVAC technician as I ask him questions about the system. I guess asking him if he changed the filter is a bit extreme but I want to make sure every aspect of the HVAC unit is perfect. I also ask him each year if he feels it should be upgraded. I don’t necessarily want to spend the extra money on a new system, but, new technology comes out each year and I want to make sure I have the very best option when it comes to heating my house. He always assures me that he will let me know when and if I need an upgrade.

This time of year my buddy and I are truly tied up at work.

Many of the purchasers my buddy and I have are looking to tune up or upgrade their Heating as well as Air Conditioning system before the winter weather sets in plus our suppliers are working overtime to maintenance those accounts.

One disluck of this time of year is the amount of money that my buddy and I have to pay upfront to have inventory on hand to handle those requests! My associate and I spend the money each year plus hope that my buddy and I make the sales to make up for it suddenly. If my buddy and I don’t then it could undoubtedly affect our bottom line at the end of the year. My associate and I did find one way to make a bit of extra money plus help with that too. When my buddy and I upgrade an aging system with a modern one my buddy and I have to remove all of the cumbersome pieces plus they tend to weigh a lot more than the newer more efficient ones. Most of the components are made of metal plus can be taken to the local junk yard for recycling. The going rate for recycled metal is quite good so it is like found money of sorts. My associate and I even agree to waive the removal fee for purchasers who decide to have us haul the outdated component out for them because my buddy and I know that my buddy and I will make a giant amount on turning the outdated junk in for cash. If my buddy and I are removing an air conditioning component my buddy and I have to clear it of any coolant before recycling it however my buddy and I have trained suppliers on staff that can handle that too.

Many of my friends plus family members like to joke that I am an “old hippie” at heart. I feel I have to admit that I do like to live a laid back lifestyle plus I consider communing with nature my glad place. Living a easy life just seems easier than dealing with the hustle plus bustle of city life. I own a small cottage on the edge of city plus I have lived there for the past thirty years or so. I knew it was time to make some swings plus make the home more inticing to future purchasers so I started with curb appeal. I cut back some of the overgrown vegetation that gave it that unkempt look; I never minded the natural look of things even though I knew I would want to sell the place plus retire to a warmer climate plus I needed things to look modern plus fresh; A coat of paint plus modern porch were next. I continued inside with cosmetic swings however when a friend visited they asked about the guts of the house. I wasn’t sure what they meant until my buddy and I started talking about wiring, plumbing plus my heating plus cooling system. They told me that those things were more important to prospective purchasers than what color the walls were, however when I met with the local Heating as well as Air Conditioning corporation he suggested changing over to mini split units plus removing all the outdated radiators that were in the house. He said that these units would be able to handle both heating plus cooling more efficiently then the new heating system plus window fans that I used. I never undoubtedly liked the idea of air conditioning even though I understood that it would increase my home’s value plus help it sell faster.
