When I was a kid, I spent all my time reading in this small room off the back porch of our house. I used to babysit, and I saved my money so that I could buy a cheap, used window air conditioning unit. My parents did not understand what I would want with an older window a/c plan when we had a central system. However, the central air conditioning did not extend to my little reading room. A portable a/c plan was not something I had the money for as a kid, so buying a used window a/c unit for this little room was the best thing to do. Then, I was able to spend all summer in my little reading room. Waking up and being off of school, going into that little reading room was just about the best option I could have dreamed up. Even though the window air conditioning unit was used, it felt like it was as good as new to me. I’m not sure how I would feel about it all these years later, but it worked well enough for me as a kid looking for a place to escape in a good book. Those aged window air conditioners are pretty darn powerful I have to tell you. As long as the room is the right size plus you fit it into the window respectfully, it could be just as good as a central a/c or a portable air conditioner. In fact, I felt like my little reading room was cooler than the rest of the house, even though the rest of the house was cooled by central air.

My wife just recently purchased an older window a/c unit used for a cheap price.

When I saw her bringing it into the house, I wondered what she would want with an older window a/c plan when we have central heat & air conditioning.

When I asked her, she explained that the airflow in her reading room is not the best. Yes, my wife had a reading room. It’s a small little sunroom, and she spends just about all her time in there. Those outdated window units are pretty, effective, to be honest. It just goes to show you that you don’t always need to buy the newest, fanciest option.
