When I moved into my first modern home I looked around and determined a lot of things needed to go, then i wanted to tear down a bunch of walls, install modern windows and remove the seasoned boiler system from the basement.
I pictured large windows, an open floor plan and a gas fireplace as the furnace! Well after buying a modern beach house I was strapped for cash. I could only open up the home, and the cost and time was a lot on me. It then took myself and others almost a year before I could get all modern windows in the site. Then I had to wait even longer to afford a modern furnace, and by the time I got enough money together to get a modern heater, I did not want my classy gas oil furnace anymore, a boiler system is honestly an amazing heater! I judged that furnace solely on appearance. It is giant, rusted and seasoned looking. But, the heating is amazing at warming the entire house, but opening up the floorplan made the oil furnace much more effective too. The energy bills are quite low and I’m constantly warm. The boiler also is hooked up to our tepid water tank and serves as a tepid water heater. I l earned too that the boiler could hook to a swimming pool and heat that as well. I could even set up piping to the boiler and then install it under my floors for heated flooring. I think someday I might do that, and for now I think I am going to take it easy on beach house repairs.
