Living up North can be quite chilly at times

I have been living up north for about six years now.

  • I love it and I hate it at the same time.

It is quite a bit cooler than I am used to, but I am slowly adapting to living up here. I grew up out west with my family, and it was much warmer there. I do not remember ever turning our furnace on. I am sure my parents would say that they did turn the furnace on a few times, but it was usually warm enough throughout the winter to go without using the furnace. I had never turned on a furnace in my life until I moved up north. Now, I have to use my furnace about three-fourths of the year. It is crazy how much money I spend on my electric bill because of it. I have to turn on my furnace in September because it seems to go from being in the seventies to being in the forties overnight. I use the furnace from September all the way through April. Occasionally, I even have to use the furnace in May. It is crazy how much colder it is here. I think my blood is finally thickening because this past winter, my furnace was having some issues, and I managed to live in my house even though it was only about fifty degrees. It got down to about forty degrees a couple of times when the temperatures were in the negatives for a few days. If that would have happened my first year living here, I would have had to leave and stay with a friend. Living up north is not too bad, but I miss the warm weather of the wild west.
