Christmas in July warns of furnace issues

Up here in the North, we only get a few months of warm weather and then it is back to freezing temperatures and snow again.

  • We have a window air conditioning unit and install it at the end of June and take it back out in August.

We really only use the window unit for a few nights, here and there, to sleep when it’s in the 80s. Well this July I had to remove our window air conditioner and turn the furnace on because it snowed. Other places joke about Christmas in July. We actually got it. You should have seen us. It was hilarious. The kids were outside in their heavy jackets and snow boots while Bob set off the fireworks for the Independence Day. Before that we barbequed. The kids tried to use they sleds but there wasn’t quite enough snow for that. But we do have a picture of a small snowman holding a sparkler. Between trips outside, we were happy to come inside and warm up by the furnace though. By the end of the night I started to notice a strange sound whenever the furnace would kick on though. At first I thought it was just the whistler firework that the neighbors were setting off but then I realized the sound was coming from the ductwork. Thankfully the next day was warm and I have a month or so before the real winter hits. I will call out a furnace repair company soon. I am kind of grateful for the strange winter weather in July because it let me know my furnace need attention before it becomes an emergency.
